Mō te tūraka mahi | About the role
We seek a skilled and solutions-focused Electrician / Electrical Services Technician to join our Campus Services and Environment Team.
In this hands-on role, you will help keep our campus safe, comfortable, compliant and running reliably.
You will provide electrical maintenance, fault finding, repairs, testing and minor installations, alongside supporting a range of wider building and electrical services.
Your work will include:
- Leading day-to-day electrical maintenance, repairs, fault finding, testing and minor installations
- Supporting lighting, power distribution, switchboards, motors, controls, metering, generators and solar PV interfaces
- Monitoring and responding to Building Management System, HVAC control and critical service faults
- Coordinating specialist contractors and checking that completed work meets the required scope, quality, safety and compliance standards
- Maintaining accurate maintenance, asset and compliance records
- Supporting preventative maintenance, condition assessments and minor improvement projects
- Participating in the Campus Services on-call roster and responding to critical after-hours faults when required.
This is primarily a campus electrician role, with the opportunity to broaden your capability across building services, controls, BMS, generators, metering and other critical campus infrastructure.

You will be a practical, safety-conscious electrician who enjoys solving problems and providing excellent service. You will be comfortable working independently while also contributing to a collaborative and supportive team.
To succeed in this role, you’ll have:
- A recognised electrical trade qualification
- Current New Zealand electrical registration and a practising licence relevant to the position
- Demonstrated experience in electrical maintenance, repairs, fault finding, testing and installation
- Practical knowledge of commercial electrical systems
- The ability to read and interpret plans, schematic diagrams, work orders and manufacturer instructions
- A strong understanding of safe work methods, risk assessments, permits, isolations and lock-out/tag-out procedures
- The ability to coordinate contractors, check completed work and maintain accurate records
- Strong communication, customer service, prioritisation and problem-solving skills
- The willingness and ability to participate in an on-call roster and respond to critical service outages outside normal working hours.
Experience with commercial or institutional buildings, Building Management Systems, HVAC controls, generators, metering, fire alarms, access or security systems, solar PV, energy monitoring or contractor coordination would be an advantage. We would also welcome applicants who are interested in developing their building services capability beyond core electrical work.
